FURNITURE Galore!

Some of these pieces I finished YEARS ago, but I can still get a little credit for it, right!?!? While I do not spend the bulk of my time on furniture anymore, I do still work on pieces for friends, and family…so if you have something that needs a face-lift…let me know!

Here is a nice spot to put a whole lot of photos of furniture I have completed. Painting to me is one of the most relaxing/frustrating things I do. I know, what a fantastic combo! Making things that were going to be thrown away into something beautiful & useful is my ultimate goal in life…..so, I will try to include as much BEFORE, and AFTER pictures I can, because that is, like, my favorite thing to do 🙂

A little spot for inspiration

Here is my little slice of heaven, right in the middle of the kitchen. The spot that is the first to pile up with bills, mail, kids homework, and all the random stuff I find that I don’t know where to put…but right now it is clean, and so I am going to relish this moment, take some pictures, and put it on my blog. 🙂

Here are the poor quality photos (sorry) of the BEFORE

Right after we moved I painted the cabinets, and had the counter-tops replaced, because as you can see they were blue….and that wasn’t quite the vibe we were going for

Here are a few pictures of the “IN PROCESS” stage, don’t worry, I’ll let you in on the complete kitchen renovation as soon as we get the new flooring in…SOON!!

I painted stripes, and a shelf, and that old chair to match…added a section of pipe to hang all kinds of important things on….& a small shelf for my sharpies & scissors…

And, Here is my little spot that I adore

Onto the next project!

Fireplaces…yes, Plural!

Fireplaces! They are fantastic in more ways than I can describe, especially when you live in Minnesota….Now this Blog is in part a way for me to  have a portfolio available online. I want to be able to look back on the projects I’ve done, and (hopefully) smile knowing that I do actually get things completed…well, like 93% completed….but hey, it counts to me 🙂 I also want it to be a place of inspiration for future clients, and non-clients alike.

This first before and after is in a home that we sold 2 years ago, but I LOVE this fireplace, and wanted to share the before and after because it just turned out so…..well, you’ll see.

There was NOTHING wrong with the fireplace that was there, but in my mind I could see what it COULD be, and so, I grabbed a hammer, some goggles, and smashed away! It was way more fun than it should be.

Ahhh, And there it is….a totally new, and different kind of fireplace wall.

The SECOND fireplace on this post is the fireplace that took WAY too long to complete, and is STILL waiting for some finishing quarter-round, but I feel the need to share my 93% complete fireplace, because, well, I can!

Here is the BEFORE situation, before we moved into the house

And after lots of toil, and more than a few drops of blood

So, there she is! What do you think? Interested in some updates in your home? Let me know! I am happy to talk to you about some RENOVATION! 🙂

Garbage, you say?

I know I’m not the only one who has a stash of plastic bags (and yes, I am trying to shy away from them & bring my own bags, but sometimes I forget…) that they could recycle & are secretly ashamed of! I wanted to know how to use what some would consider garbage to make something useful & cute!

I learned how to make plastic bags into rings

Then those rings get knotted together, like this

I continued to join these rings together until I had a plastic ball of “yarn” Then I crocheted the plastic yarn into this….

Pretty slick little bag….or you could make a thousand other things!

Why do i own so many things that plug in?

So, Soon after we moved into our new house I had a problem. The cute curved shelf across from the bathroom was over-run with phones,  & tablets… It was SO ugly….so I went online & searched for images of charging stations for inspiration, and headed to the garage to check out the barnwood supply

What resulted from a few pieces of old barnwood, crystal knobs, painted wood project scraps takes care of all of our devices, and even leaves room for guests 🙂

Darling Girlie bedrooms all done!

This renovation has been in the works for about 7 months….well….maybe more like 15 months. A labor of love for my three little girls.

Nora’s room

Her walls are painted purple, the headboard I painted directly onto the wall in a creme color, the dresser was one I had refinished for her, and added the crystal knobs

Daylight verses evening light….makes the walls come alive!

ZOEY & ELLA’S Bedroom

Zoey & Ella really wanted a little bit of privacy, and so they are stashed away in what used to be the double closets. I love the little forts & fairytales they create from their own little “cubbies”

The polka dot wall adds a bit of whimsey

Sweet dreams, my little lovies!

A Day in the life of an accidental Artist

So….as you may or may not know, I love to create art. I also love to hoard it, and never show anyone, or tell anyone about it. If you discover my art & compliment me, I will most likely turn bright red, which is why this next project was such a fantastic jump for me from start to finish it was terrifying, and unnerving….but when it was complete I (and more importantly, the client) loved them!

Building a Baby memory quilt

Just completed a beautiful quilt for a friend of mine. This quilt is a memory quilt for a sweet little girl on her birthday. A “first year” documentation made of the softest, and prettiest colors you could imagine.

The process was time consuming, in the most fantastic way possible. tiny clothes…Armed with a cup of coffee an iron & some scissors I cut out, pieced together & made one of my favorite quilts to date. There was even enough material left to make a “dollie”version.
